2010 marks the landmark 30th anniversary of Ireland’s premier off-shore sailing event.
The Conway Media Round Ireland Yacht Race departs Wicklow Bay at 12 noon on Sunday 20th June 2010.
The Round Ireland is the longest race in the Royal Ocean Racing Club calendar. The first race took place in 1980 with only thirteen boats. Since then, held biannually, the fleet has grown steadily, and in the order of 40 yachts are expected to participate this year.
The 2010 renewal plans to build on the success of previous races and the Volvo RTW 2009 stopover in Galway . A Round Ireland Sail Fest (Fri 18 - Sun 20 June) will complement the race preparations and add a welcome level of fun and entertainment for all coming down.

About our sponsors:
This is the inaugural year of the Conway Media sponsorship of the Round Ireland. Local businessman, Roy Conway, stepped in to take up the mantle of title sponsor for both the 2010 Round Ireland Yacht Race and the Sailfest. Roy Conway is CEO of the company and already has a great affinity with the Race, having previously participated on a number of occasions. He is delighted to be in a position to be able to support the Race and the town:
“Conway group companies have been involved in local business here in Wicklow for more than twenty years across various industries including shipping, transport, distribution and property acquisition and we are privileged to be able to support all of the Round Ireland Yacht Race, the Sailfest and Wicklow."
"Conway Media, our re-branded print and design company will be the title sponsor for the 2010 Round Ireland Yacht Race and we are particularly lucky to be associated with the 30th Anniversary of the race. We are currently undertaking a lot of activity including the launch of our national website (letsprint.ie), so the exposure that the Race is set to give us is particularly important for the brand right now.”
Charlie Kavanagh, Commodore of Wicklow Sailing Club, welcomes the support of local company Conway Media for the Club's flagship event and look forward to a cordial and profitable working relationship for both parties. The Race is now a major biannual fixture on the International Sailing calendar and is very much a sailors' race - the sailors are renowned for the wonderful colour and excitement they bring to Wicklow, while the boats and crews are in town.
